| Riboflavin test for low-germ or sterile
process technologies: English Edition available. Link to the VDMA website updated |
|
Tests for examination of cleanability play a major role in sterile process technology. A variety of tests are
applied in practice, depending on the respective use case, suitability or requirements. This information
sheet does not specify further details in this respect. The Ribo-flavin test finds more and more acceptance in the field to verify and document the results of cleaning components and process systems. The test is applicable for storage tanks with internal components, reactors, centrifuges etc.,whenever a visual inspection is possible. The principle of the test is based on applying fluorescent liquid onto the internal surface of the equipment and inspecting it with a UV-light.
However, there are different practises used in conducting the Ribo-flavintest in the pharmaceutical industry and in the food industry. This new procedure released through the VDMA-Merkblatt (www.vdma.org) now gives machinery and equipment manufacturers of vessels and reactors and users in the production process the opportunity, to
plan the testing process in detail, to prepare the test well and to conduct the test properly. Elements of this VDMA-Merkblatt are: structure, scope, targets and procedure, as well as evaluation and documentation of the Riboflavin test. Further, this standard makes reference to employees precautions and safety requirements.
The VDMA-Merkblatt Ribo-flavin test (December 2007 edition) can be used free of charge and obtained from THALEMAIL in a PDF-version. |
